A suicide bomber
has hit the St. Rita’s Catholic Church in in Malali area of Kaduna, the capital
of Kaduna state metropolis.
The bomber rammed his bomb laden Honda CRV into the church building at
about 8.45 a.m. when worshipers were observing the usual Sunday service. The
bomber and an unconfirmed number of people are reported to have died after the
incidence.
The impact of the explosion also damaged the church building, cars and
other houses near the church.
Security officials are reported to have cordoned off the area, while
officials of the State Emergency Management Agency, the Red Cross have been
evacuating the dead bodies and injured victims.
The two reverend fathers officiating the mass are reported to have
sustained serious injuries.
National Emergency Management Agency spokesman Yushua Shuaib told AP news
agency initial reports suggested the attack was by a suicide bomber.
The church was surrounded by soldiers and police after the blast, and
ambulances were taking the injured to hospital.
There are unconfirmed reports of clashes breaking out between Christians and
Muslims after the attack
